Recruitment experts have made a call for greater transparency in the accountancy recruitment sector in order to balance out continuing disparity between male and female executives in pay levels and promotion opportunities.
The fifth annual ICAEW/Robert Half Career Benchmarking Survey has shown that the average basic salary of a female accountancy executive is £62,300 – just 70 per cent that of their male colleagues’ £89,500.
The managing director of Robert Half in the UK, Phil Sheridan, said more needed to be done to level the recruitment processes.
“Robert Half supports emerging policies to make recruitment processes more transparent and offer women a seat at the decision-making table, especially in light of the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day,” he said.
“It is also important that women who are looking for an executive or C-level role have a plan in place to tackle any challenges they may encounter on their climb up the career ladder.”
The survey said that women’s opportunities were influenced more by external factors than men, such as women being more likely to work part time at critical career stages than men and also more likely to work in the less well paid public sector than men.
