Process Improvement Engineer

Chester / Deeside

c£40-45K basic (dependent on experience) + bonus and benefits

The company is a growing and successful technical services business, specialising in essential specialist cleaning and inspection services for the Oil & Gas sector, as well as the design and manufacture of leading edge equipment. Innovation is at the heart of the business and they are committed to an on-going programme of Research & Development.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the business at a key point in its development, in this new position based at their HQ near Chester. Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the appointee will lead and manage multiple, simultaneous process improvement projects relating to their machinery and equipment. Projects will include the modification and semi-automation of current equipment as well as ensuring that all machinery conforms to various codes, standards and legislation.

Full product training will be provided, both in Chester and at customer sites in Europe.

Key responsibilities include :

- Working alongside the Design Engineer, the appointee will undertake a thorough review of the existing technology and identify areas for improvement and development to ensure that the business continues to be at the forefront of the market and maintains its competitive edge
- Assessing the operational efficiency of machinery and equipment
- Implementing process improvements to existing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Assessment and optimisation of operational procedures
- Assessment of suppliers’ Continuous Improvement culture around Lean / 6 Sigma, KPI-defined and data driven decisions
- Ensuring Corrective Action Preventive Action plans are developed and executed at assigned suppliers in compliance with the CAPA process
- Leading root cause investigations and corrective actions to resolve supplier quality related issues
- Supplier part and process qualification activities (PFMEA, Control Plan, GR&R, capability studies, etc.) and Quality Plan Implementation
- Assisting the Design Engineer with new system design

Applicants should have the following aptitudes /characteristics:

- A good degree in an Engineering related discipline
- Must be able to demonstrate success in designing and implementing process improvements that have delivered tangible benefits
- Experience in problem solving and root-cause analysis skills with the communication skills to lead and influence others to drive change
- Proven process development and project management skills and a track record in managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience in effective use of Quality Management System tools
- Experience in design & manufacturing with some CAD knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop & implement a strategy to ensure compliance
- Knowledge of electrical/electronic systems would be advantageous
- Some exposure to Lean methodologies would be useful
- Effective report writing skills
