This company is one of the leading Train Engineering Businesses in the UK and they are looking to strengthen their Engineering team with a Mechanical Design Engineer

As a business, they pride themselves on the quality of their work. They offer a comprehensive range of refurbishment, maintenance, overhaul and repair services to the UK rail sector, providing services on passenger trains and specialist infrastructure vehicles.

Based in Kilmarnock, they employ over 80 people in our 4 road, 14 vehicle capacity depot. The Engineering team undertakes innovative design and development work as well as resolving both simple and complex engineering issues on existing rolling stock. This includes mechanical and electrical engineering design for the development of new equipment novel repairs as well as reverse engineering for obsolete parts.

The main purpose of the role is to provide a range of engineering solutions from bespoke design, reverse engineering and repairs to rolling stock.

- Providing innovative solutions to arising engineering issues.
- Designing and implementing cost effective modifications to improve safety, reliability and productivity.
- Ensure products / equipment can be manufactured reliably and will perform consistently within specified operating environments.
- Producing engineering drawings and writing work instructions for the Production team.
- Putting together comprehensive BoM’s and helping to source parts.
- Capable of identifying and working to relevant mandatory standards.
- Producing technical reports describing how to operate or maintain designed equipment.
- Producing design documentation to demonstrate compliance with the design brief which may include some engineering calculations.

You will be a graduate Mechanical / Mechanical Design Engineer with a few years of design experience under your belt perhaps within a Production Engineering environment or designing parts for manufacturing. Experience of designing welded assemblies would be an advantage.

You should be a competent CAD user, capable of using Creo to produce models and drawings for customers and subsequent manufacturing and also have the creativity and problem solving skills to manage conflicting priorities by effectively communicating across teams.
