The organisation

This role is for an international membership organisation that promotes and advances civil engineering around the world. They are a qualifying body, a centre for the exchange of specialist knowledge, and a provider of resources to encourage innovation and excellence in the profession worldwide.

The role

They are looking for a Marketing Communications Executive who will play a central role in achieving regional objectives for their South West region by providing effective communication with external audiences and their members.

Duties and responsibilities

- Develop and implement internal and external communications plans in support of South West Business Plan priorities identifying the most appropriate channels
- Produce high-quality marketing and communications content and outputs to support their lifelong learning, membership growth, thought leadership and education and inspiration activity
- Build relationships with media outlets and external organisations using your contacts and judgement to raise the profile of infrastructure issues, civil engineering, civil engineers, the business and its activities in the South West
- Support volunteer committees in the development and co-ordination of high-quality lifelong learning programmes and social events valued by members. Drive attendance at these events through effective marketing and communication activity
- Edit, produce and distribute fortnightly e-zine, maintain the companies South West website pages including event listings, produce presentations editing content to ensure appropriateness
- Produce hardcopy newsletters, exhibition materials including editorial and management of design, print and distribution
- Lead in the running of industry awards including event programme, sponsorship, film production and media coverage
- Build relationships with contacts in client, consultant and contractor organisations and enlist their support in raising awareness of civil engineering achievement
- Provide professional communication project management and sourcing, including negotiations with external agencies to maximise efficient operations and use of limited budget

What are they looking for?

Essential
- Significant experience of media relations and experience in building relationships with local press
- Significant experience of marketing communications
- Project management experience
- Strong experience in production of digital media content
- Strong communications skills, and the ability to assimilate and distil technical information to produce copy and messages appropriate to the audience
- Strong reporting skills, the ability to provide regular, timely and concise reports, both verbal and written is essential
- Good proof reading and editing skills to ensure high quality outputs

Desirable
- Producing lively, engaging content, copywriting
