This employer is a bioremediation company that produces ecologically friendly bacterial products to treat wastewater and contaminated ecosystems. They are looking for a Formulations Chemist with a strong background in Environmental Chemistry as well as expertise in biotechnology. The ideal candidate will be expected to determine the physiochemical aspects of product stability and efficacy and would have previous experience with polymer or colloid interactions and a basis of organic chemistry.

The role will involve conducting scientific experiments to develop their chemical/bacterial products and defining laboratory/experimental protocols. The role will also involve designing tests and monitoring the environmental impacts of chemical formulations when designed and used for biotechnology. Understanding of UK environmental and chemical regulations and implementation of R&D projects, microbial biology and/or soil & water ecology would be a bonus.

The main duties of the role will include:
- Developing assays that test the efficacy of a range of ecologically benign chemicals in breaking down or sequestering environmental pollutants such as petrochemical hydrocarbons
- Development and formulation of new chemical & microbiological remediation products
- Designing laboratory and field experiments to test chemical formulations for the purpose of bioremediation and to inform product design
- Maintaining good written records of experimental results
- Detailed design, implementation and monitoring field trials, including gaining regulatory approval
- Preparing and analysing datasets that arise from the field and laboratory experiments e.g., database organisation and in-depth statistical analyses
- Developing and maintaining a deep understanding of the regulations regarding chemical/biological product manufacture and export
- Contributing to health, safety and wellbeing of all members of staff and ensure that all members follow laboratory health & safety policies and risk assessments
- Providing periodically technical/scientific reports for the line manager
- Planning and managing own activities and priorities to meet project targets
- Engaging with colleagues, collaborators and project co-investigators

Person Specification:
They're looking for a professional, dynamic and motivated individual with ability to work alone and as part of a team, and also have/be:

Preferable
- PhD in Organic/Environmental/Formulation Chemistry or similar
- Member of RSC
- Chartered Chemist
- Good experience with environmental remediation.
- Previous experience working with microorganisms
- Knowledge of product development cycles
- Able to work under pressure
- Passion for innovation and problem solving

Desirable
- Experience formulating chemical products
- Background in Polymer Chemistry
- Member of REMSoC
- Over 8 year of professional experience
- Communicative, organised and committed
- Good skills in word, excel and database management
- Good statistical knowledge
