The company was founded in 2016 after winning the Scottish Higgs EDGE 2016 for its development of a Graphene layer manufacturing process. The transformational process is disruptive as it enables the use of Graphene in an unlimited number of applications. The company’s design for manufacture (DfM) process creates 3D graphene in seconds and therefore enables high volume manufacture.

To support the technical development team, we are looking for hands-on physicist, electrochemist or materials scientist to join our team of scientists and engineers dedicated to developing products in the energy and biosensor fields.

The successful candidate will work in our graphene team on laboratory based research and development of products and processes. He/she will work on new supercapacitor and biosensor materials and test these using a range of electrochemical testing techniques in order to increase cell and platform performance.

The chosen candidate will have a high degree of freedom to operate and it is expected that he/she is a self-reliant achiever and thrives in small, innovative teams.

Specific duties include:
- Building prototype devices.
- Characterising materials (by Electrochemical testing).
- Analysing the interaction between electrodes and electrolyte.
- Benchmarking materials relative to alternatives.
- Gather, select, analyse and interpret data.
- Establishing criteria for Quality Assurance measurements.
- Ensuring safe operation of all process associated equipment.
- Acting as a technical liaison with colleagues, customers and manufacturers.

The successful candidate will have the following education, experience, and personal characteristics:

Education and Skills
- Relevant degree in either science or engineering is required
- Significant relevant experience in the field of fuel cell, super-capacitor and/or biosensor
- Highly resourceful, curious and proud to puzzle and solve challenges.
- Familiar with program language (e.g. Matlab, Basic, etc.) is desirable
- Proficient use of 3D CAD is desirable

Experience
- 3+ years of experience (theoretical and practical knowledge) in supercapacitor and fuel cells.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with electrochemical devices development.
- The application of theory to interpret experimental results.
- Experience in working with nano-structured carbons and novel electrolyte formulations.
- Hands-on experience in electrochemical testing and characterisation of supercapacitors and/or batteries including: Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, Cyclic Voltammetry, and Cell Cycling
- PLC experience and the ability to be trained in PLC programming
- Capable of working in a multi-disciplinary research team.
- Able to demonstrate, from previous experience, high quality research completed and documented in technical reports.
