Back End Developer

You'll be working closely with a team of developers to build out their multi-award-winning Learning Management System (it’s basically an online learning portal, with a huge amount of functionality). You'll also be developing Genie, their eLearning Authoring Tool. Both systems are based on the Laravel PHP framework, with a MySQL DB. There’s lot to do and plenty of scope for you to get stuck in and join the fight against dull online learning!

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with designers and other developers to build new features and provide enhancements
- Troubleshooting and maintenance of existing functionality
- Maintain coding standards and coding best practices
- Contribute to technical problem solving discussions with the team
- Assist with testing
- Provide accurate timing estimates on work
- Contribute to documentationYou are passionate about coding and keep up to date with advances in technology. You get involved with StackOverflow, Github and other programming communities. Please share a link to any profiles on StackOverflow etc…

Knowledge/Skills
- At least 3 years’ experience in web development.

Qualifications
- Educated to degree level in a related subject Experience

Essential Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Solid understanding of OOP PHP and SQL (preferably MySQL)
- Strong time management skills
- Good knowledge of coding best practices and scalability (we’re growing fast!)
- Good knowledge of HTML/CSS/Javascript (jQuery) and browser compatibility

Desirable requirements
- An understanding of server configuration, or a desire to learn
- Experience with Caching systems such as Redis or Memcache
- Experience working on large projects as part of a team
- Knowledge of an MVC framework such as Laravel
- Knowledge of building highly scalable systems
- Experience with NodeJS
- Knowledge of SCORM and xAPI
- Experience with PHPUnit
- Experience with AWS
- Experience of working with a version control system such as Git
