This is an opportunity to join an award winning UK textile innovator, independently owned, specialising in the design & manufacture of contract upholstery fabrics for commercial interiors and mass passenger transport. The company is based in the UK’s West Yorkshire textile heartland, with additional manufacturing in Lithuania and Nottingham, from where it extends global reach into some 80 countries worldwide via established offices, warehousing and distribution channels in Europe, North America, China and Australia. This company sells over 8 million metres of fabric a year for use in commercial offices, banks, government departments, universities, NHS, cinema, auditoria and transportation applications in buses, coaches, trains and underground.

Job Purpose:

To manage and operate a set of weaving machines, produce woven fabrics to set schedules and to meet customer demands.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:

1. To manage and weave up to 12 looms using both natural & synthetic yarns.

2. To understand and operate both dobby and jacquard looms.

3. To maintain a high standard of quality when weaving on the looms, repair warp & weft breaks, ensure weft creels are filled and full pieces of fabric are doffed at the correct length.

4. Checking work to ensure fabrics are defect free and ensuring all quality procedures are followed and documented.

5. To take the responsibility to stop machines weaving if they suspect any quality problems. Ensuring any quality issues are reported to their team leader and loom tuner.

6. To ensure the working environment is maintained to a high standard, maintaining their work areas in a safe, clean & tidy manner with a high standard of housekeeping.

7. To ensure the company’s H&S standards are maintained at all times, any Health, Safety or Welfare issues are reported to their team leader or loom tuner immediately, taking the responsibility to stop machines or people if they suspect any safety problems. Ensuring strict rules on PPE, manual handling & work place vehicles are adhered to.

Knowledge and aptitudes required:

- Experience of both rapier and air jet weaving.
- Experience and knowledge of Jacquard weaving.
- The ability to read weaving drafts & designs.
- Knowledge of weaving woollen, worsted and synthetic yarns.
- A good standard of verbal & written communication is required.
