This business has an on-going expansion of their successful national site investigation operations and they have created a new position for a Trainee Site Investigation Lead Operative reporting to the Department Manager (Geotechnical).

You will be based from the Milton Keynes/ East Grinstead area, and undergo training to fulfil the role.

You will be mobile/ field based, in this“hands-on”, physical role and get to work as part of a two person team in undertaking the following:

- Ground investigations at domestic properties include:
o Driving a Long Wheel Base van (e.g. Ford Transit panel van)
o Operating hand held and mechanical drilling/ boring equipment to extract soil and root samples.
o Excavation of trial pits and/or trenches by hand to expose and record foundations/ sub-structures.
o Hard and soft surfacing reinstatement methods/ techniques.
o Basic domestic drainage investigation work.
o Establish and manage work area safety, welfare and health in full compliance with company safety procedures/Health & Safety guidelines.
o Produce accurate and high quality field report of results utilising in-house reporting software via a tablet/ Touchpad PC.
- Day to day maintenance of plant, tools and equipment.

If you have CSCS, NVQ, CPCS, NRSWA, Manual Handling, First Aid, Street Works qualifications that would be great but training can be provided to suitable candidates.

Geotechnical qualifications or solid experience within the ground investigation, subsidence industry, and or drainage industry would be a distinct advantage but not essential as full training will be given to suitable candidates.

Full UK driving licence is essential (Minimum Category B), own transport to get to the local depot/ departure point (Milton Keynes/ East Grinstead), and ability to drive vans to medium to long-wheelbase length. You will need to be competent to drive, park and manoeuvre a vehicle of this size and weight in a variety of driving environments.

You will be able to identify and resolve common site problems and seek advice to deal with situations beyond your own technical competence. You will be practical, proactive and willing to be flexible and focused on learning how to get the job done safely and to a high standard.

You will be IT comfortable and have a working knowledge of standard IT packages (Word, Excel, Office etc.).

You will be confident communicator with excellent inter-personal skills together with a willingness to show hands on team leadership with ability to prioritise and problem solve.

The right to work in the UK is a pre-requisite for applying. All work starts and finishes at their bases in Milton Keynes/ East Grinstead so applicants will have to reside, or relocate to within a sensible commuting distance (i.e. <30minutes). Usual hours will be 42.5 hour week – Monday to Friday, plus overtime and overnight allowances.
