Senior Scientist: Liver Biology

This company has its Translational Biology division based in the Edinburgh BioQuarter, offering specialist preclinical contract research services to Pharmaceutical & Biotech companies focussed on Immuno-Oncology, Immunology, Neuroscience and Histology. The company is looking to further diversify therapeutically into models of liver disease and fibrosis.

Job Description:
They are looking for an experienced Senior Scientist with a background of research in liver disease, who will significantly contribute to the assay development and client project delivery in this area. The role requires strong lab-based skills with prior experience of hepatocyte cell-based assays and in-vivo modelling, ability to create new & relevant assay platforms, clear internal/external communication skills, ability to work in a team and capacity to multitask.

Key Tasks:
Project Management
- Working with the team and relevant academic contacts, as required, to ensure quality conduct and delivery of client projects.
- Actively interrogating scientific literature to understand relevant therapeutic targets in the area as necessary for individual projects.
- Line management of Scientists, delegation of project tasks across the team to ensure accurate and timely delivery of client data.
- Implementing quality control steps to ensure projects are conducted and delivered according to the standards expected, developing new or updating SOPs as required.
- Communicating with both clients and internal teams as required.

R&D
- Actively participating in the production and maintenance of primary cell cultures/cell lines/organoid/tissue slices as required.
- Establishing relevant in-vivo models based on client demand.
- Apply knowledge of molecular and cellular biology, protein biochemistry and functional readouts to develop, validate and run assays, chosen based on analysis of client demand and competitive landscape.
- Ensuring accurate record keeping of all experimental work, from initial protocol development, accurate lab notes, through to write up of results and report production, archiving.
- Data analysis and quantification using appropriate statistical methods and reporting responsibilities.

Business development
- Taking an active role in nurturing new and expanding existing client relationships

Desired Skills/Experience:
- PhD qualified (in relevant field) with a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience.
- Previous experience of Pharma/Biotech or CRO desirable.
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Demonstrable laboratory experience and a strong cellular and molecular skill-set.
