This life sciences company develops natural bioactive compounds into novel antimicrobial solutions to human and animal health-related problems and takes these solutions to the market where they can be used.

The company was established in 1998. Over the last 18 years they have grown into a life sciences company that is a leader in the development of anti-infectives. Their aim is to use their culture of creativity and diversity to contribute to improving the lives, health and wellbeing of those patients and customers who have life-limiting rare diseases or for whom effective treatments for their medical conditions are not currently available.

Their people consist of highly trained individuals with backgrounds in analytical chemistry, separation science, medicinal biology, microbiology, protein chemistry, drug development, agriculture, engineering and business, who intuitively think creatively.

Responsibilities:
- Drive all R&D approved projects to make sure that project outcomes are realised for commercialisation in line with strategic R&D priorities
- Provide input to support definition of key project concepts and delineation of the feasibility of envisioned project outcomes
- Carry out relevant product and/ or intervention-related market research to support development of business cases
- Liaise with university and academic institutions
- Generate project briefs and budgets for funding applications
- Production of written and oral reports to keep internal and external stakeholders up to date of project progress
- Maintain appropriate and accessible project records
- Travel within the UK will be necessary. International travel may also be required

Requirements:
Essential:
- At least a degree equivalent qualification in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or a related discipline. Relevant experience could also be considered
- A project management qualification, for example Prince II
- At least 5 years of practical experience working in a related research or production environment
- Previous experience and/ or knowledge of grant funding, including limitations of grant funding options
- Experience of working in internationally, especially with Pan European projects

Desirable:
- Well-developed ability to conceptualise abstract themes and translate these into workable plans and visualised formats
- Knowledge of industry relevant procedures and standards within the life sciences, as well as at least an understanding of the principles of biochemistry, analytical chemistry & chemistry
- Strong communication and presentation skills both in verbal and written
- Capability with carrying out risk assessment procedures
- Understand the opportunities and challenges of working across both small and large companies and business cultures
- Be comfortable working with cultural and geographical diversity
- Have a can-do mind-set and a desire to contribute

This is a full time 9 month contract
