The role (close date 14 March)

The Regional Director will have the opportunity to impact on the delivery of their strategic vision through raising the profile of civil engineering in the region, building relationships and influencing at a high level and by ensuring an effective and efficient service is provided to current members.

Duties & responsibilities

- Building relationships with regional & local government to influence policy development & implementation
- Constructing responses to regional consultations, in conjunction with regional experts, providing advice to regional government to influence policy
- Engaging with media to raise awareness of civil engineering’s contribution to society & their policy on future infrastructure development
- Developing partnerships & schemes with a wide range of organisations to raise awareness & encouraging pre-19 students to consider a career in civil engineering
- Promoting lifelong learning & maintenance of competence by administering regional events
- Advising & supporting individuals on routes to progress to Fellowship membership of the organisation
- Developing & implementing the regional Business Plan & key strategies to achieve organisation objectives on public voice, knowledge transfer & member communications

What are we looking for?

- Applicants must be educated to degree level or equivalent. A Chartered Civil Engineer (or a knowledge & understanding of civil engineering & construction) would be desirable
- Candidates will have industry experience whilst some knowledge of engineering education, training & professional development would be desirable
- Candidates will have previous exposure in liaising with & influencing a wide audience of people & will have significant experience in customer / client relationship management
- Applicants should have experience of external relations in the national political environment & median relations experience
- Attention to detail & the ability to provide regular verbal & written reports is essential
- Experience managing & developing a diverse multi- discipline team is essential, whilst experience of performance management is highly desirable
- Candidates will have experience of business planning & financial management
- The successful candidate will have excellent written & verbal communication skills & the ability to prepare & deliver presentations. Applicants will be comfortable in dealing with public media briefings & be capable of public facing interactions
