This is an opportunity to join a leading independent operator of double-decker buses in the West Midlands.

They are looking for a talented PSV Engineer who will uphold their high standards of maintenance and then work to improve them yet further.

You will be a fully qualified and multi-skilled engineer who is experienced in bus maintenance. You will know how to keep accurate and detailed written records of your work on inspection sheets and other engineering documents. You will have sound technical knowledge and you’ll be able to diagnose and rectify faults with their Volvo B7TL and Dennis Trident fleet. You’ll be skilled at dealing with buses on the road when necessary. Your attention to detail will ensure that the health and safety of their customers and of people in their depot is never compromised.

You will be part a friendly team which works in Birmingham. Their engineering workshop usually opens at 0530 and closes at 2100 on schooldays: shorter hours apply on non-schooldays. They generally work Monday-Friday, although some weekend working will be required for special events.

Key responsibilities:

- Completing vehicle inspections and rectification to a very high standard
- Preparing buses for MoT when necessary
- Dealing with faulty buses on the road, either by working with the driver by telephone or attending the bus
- Ensuring that sufficient buses are always available for service, including spares
- Ensuring that their buses and their workshop are safe, clean, and well-maintained
- Ensuring that their buses are well-presented on the road
- Communicating effectively and professionally with the operations team
- Maintaining accurate records
- Ensuring that the company’s procedures are followed throughout the workshop

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

Essential:
- Relevant engineering qualification(s) such as NVQ, HNC, BTEC
- Full UK driving licence, plus PCV licence

Desirable:
- Successful completion of a recognised apprenticeship scheme

Candidates need to possess detailed technical engineering knowledge, an understanding of engineering procedures and health & safety legislation, and the skills of problem-solving and leading a team of people. Ideally you will come from bus or coach background, but you may have military or HGV experience.
