This company offers telecoms, connectivity and IT services for both short-term events and long-term customer base. The company’s development and recent expansion have created a new role that will be office based at Kirkby Mallory in Leicestershire, with rare visits to client sites where support cannot be completed remotely.

This is a new, key role within the business. This company has been expanding at around 50% per year since it was formed requiring the improvement of the IT, telecoms and network support function within the company.

This company is both a Service Provider of telecommunications services and a RIPE registered ISP, and the role will be to support the delivery and running of these services.

Essential skills

- Attention to detail & a calm, methodical approach to work
- Excellent professional communications skills including telephone and email are vital. Liaison with high profile clients and suppliers is a key element of the role.
- Driving license
- IT Networking background with ability to learn new systems and processes
- Ability to develop new processes and systems where none currently exist
- Ability to keep clear and accurate records of all work d one
- Ability to prioritise multiple jobs running simultaneously
- Understanding of IP addressing
- Experience of programming routers, switches and other IT equipment.
- Experience of remote access into IT equipment.

Knowledge of Mikrotik OS and some understanding of the process of provisioning telephone lines, DSL services and fibre connectivity through portals would be an advantage, although these things can be taught.

The following abbreviations and terms should be familiar:
DHCP, PPPoE, NAT, Firewall, Fixed Public IP, 4G, ADSL, FTTC, VOIP, WiFi, POE.

The Day-to Day job

There will be four key elements of the role, and all will run simultaneously.

- Handling support calls from clients.
Usually problems with connectivity from DSL or fibre, telephone lines, VOIP telephones, 4G systems
- Supporting the provisioning of telephone and connectivity services
They have direct access to systems that provision telephone lines, DSL services and fibre services.
- Maintaining the company Network, and supporting other IT staff when situations arise. Orders often come in at short notice and some equipment is built onsite. Can include maintenance and upgrading of IT systems used across the business both by clients and core systems.

- Out of hours
A company mobile is carried every other week to pick up any rare out of hours calls. -Overtime in 15-minute increments plus 2.5 hours of paid time per week as compensation.

Other notes:

- Hours - 9am to 5pm (occasional work outside these hours but unusual)
- Monday-Friday
- 30 minutes lunch
- 2.5hpw free time in exchange for carrying company out of hours mobile
- Holidays are 20 days per year. Plus some days around the - Christmas Break when attendance at work will not be required.
- Company vehicles/mileage scheme where the requirement to go off-site arises.
