The role (six month fixed term contract)

This organisation requires a part time (14.5 hours per week) Membership Development Officer (MDO) based in the Yorkshire & Humber Region to work with other members of the North England Team and active members, to deliver membership support and promote the benefits of their membership to non-members.

The post-holder will work in conjunction with the Membership Manager and other MDOs in the region to develop and deliver a coherent strategy for membership development, including co-ordinating the development and delivery of their training and services to individuals and companies mainly within Yorkshire & Humber. It is expected that there will be travel to other Regions to support other MDOs and for training purposes.

Duties and responsibilities

- Membership development – actively seeking, gaining buy-in for and implementing initiatives to develop their membership base.
- Membership growth – undertaking activities to promote and grow membership mainly within Yorkshire & Humber Region with a particular focus on Technician growth and apprentices.
- Membership Support – providing advice and guidance to members and non-members of the Yorkshire & Humber Region.
- Employer Support – providing advice and guidance to employers on professional development
- Further Education establishments – developing links and projects to raise awareness of their membership and professional development.

What are we looking for?

- Educated to degree level or equivalent, relevant experience in civil engineering, customer service, learning and development or a related subject is essential. A Chartered Civil Engineer (or a broad knowledge of Civil Engineering) would be desirable, though not essential.
- Previous exposure to liaising with a wide audience of people, along with the ability to engage and relate to senior members of the engineering and education professions. Ideally you should also be experienced at working with volunteer committees.
- Attention to detail and the ability to turn technical material into non-technical outputs are essential, as is the ability to target and engage a diverse range of audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare and deliver presentations.
- There will be a need to work outside “normal office hours”, when necessary.
