This organisation's South West & Wales Membership area requires a part time Membership Development Officer (MDO) based in South West England to work with other members of the South West & Wales Team and active members, to deliver membership support & promote the benefits of their membership to non-members.

The post-holder will work in conjunction with the Membership Manager & other MDOs in the area to develop & deliver a coherent strategy for membership development, including co-ordinating the development & delivery of their training & services to individuals and companies mainly within the South West of England, centred around (but not limited to) Wiltshire and Somerset. This role will require travel & some overnight stays.

Duties:
- Membership development – actively seeking, gaining buy-in for & implementing initiatives to develop our membership base
- Membership growth – undertaking activities to promote & grow membership
- Membership support – providing advice & guidance to members & non-members
- Employer support – providing advice & guidance to employers on professional development
- Further education support – developing links & projects to raise awareness of the membership & professional development
- Working closely with the Membership Manager, existing MDOs, & other areas to ensure a consistency of approach
- Ensuring that membership records are up to date

What they are looking for:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent with relevant experience in civil engineering, customer service, learning & development or a related subject is essential.
- Previous exposure to liaising with a wide audience of people, along with the ability to engage & relate to senior members of the engineering and education professions. Ideally you should also be experienced at working with volunteers.
- Attention to detail & the ability to turn technical material into non-technical outputs are essential, as is the ability to target & engage a diverse range of audiences.
- The ability to work alone & as part of a multi-functional team, while managing & planning a number of simultaneous tasks effectively is key to this role.
- The successful candidate will have excellent written & verbal communication skills & the ability to prepare & deliver presentations for a wide range of audiences. You will also be capable of public facing interactions on a personal & group basis.
- Strong supporting ICT capabilities with knowledge & skills in Microsoft office applications are essential.
- Membership, or eligibility for membership, of a professional body is desirable.
- There will be a need to work with volunteers outside “normal office hours”, when necessary
