One of the leading Train Engineering Businesses in the UK is looking for a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer / Engineering Manager to support the Engineering & Projects Manager in the delivery of engineering and project management services tothe business and its customers.and lead the Engineering team as they move forward.

As a business they pride themselves on the quality of their work. They offer a comprehensive range of refurbishment, maintenance, overhaul and repair services to the UK rail sector, providing services on passenger trains and specialist infrastructure vehicles.

Based in Kilmarnock, they employ over 70 people in our 4 road, 14 vehicle capacity depot. The Engineering team undertakes innovative design and development work as well as resolving both simple and complex engineering issues on existing rolling stock. This includes mechanical and electrical engineering design for the development of new equipment, novel repairs as well as reverse engineering for obsolete parts.

The key responsibilities will include:
- Assessment of damage to vehicles and production of work instructions to describe necessary repairs
- Writing technical justifications for engineering decisions
- Engineering calculations and analysis to ensure that designs can be manufactured reliably and will perform consistently within specified operating environments.
- Ensuring engineering processes are followed and improved where necessary
- Designing and implementing effective modifications to improve design reliability, safety and productivity
- Manage the day to day work within the Engineering team of 5, providing motivation, coaching, development and capability assessment of team skills and engineering skills gaps.

You will have extensive experience as a hands-on senior engineer with team management experience, preferably within the Rail industry or other heavy vehicle engineering environments. Ideally you will be a Chartered Engineer with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Able to demonstrate good communication and influencing skills you will also have the passion and enthusiasm to relish the challenge of helping to develop the business through effective relationship management with both internal and external customers.
