An exciting opportunity for a fluent German speaking litigator to join a fast-growing team in a varied business development and underwriting function. You will work closely with and under the direction of the Managing Director of their UK/Europe/Asia business on strategy and delivering on strategic goals and business growth, but also with the Global underwriting team
This firm provides a broad range of finance solutions to law firms and clients engaged in significant commercial litigation and arbitration, as well as other capital solutions and services to the legal market.
Position Requirements
Underwriting Responsibilities
- Analysing the risk profile of cases, including the legal merits as well as party, counsel and financial risk.
- Providing oversight to cases in which the firm has invested, including risk and budget review as the case progresses.
- Reporting, both orally and in writing, on these cases.
- Liaising, and developing relationships with solicitors and barristers, in-house corporate counsel to General Counsel Level and other clients, as well as with the underwriting teams in New York and Chicago.
Business Development Responsibilities
- Assist in driving development of German opportunities, as well as in other jurisdictions in continental Europe.
- Outreach to law firm, in-house corporate counsel to General Counsel Level and other corporate officers to CFO level, developing relationships and driving business origination.
- Working closely with the business development teams in New York and Chicago.
Skills Desired:
Qualifications & Experience
- A UK qualified lawyer with litigation experience from a top tier UK or US law firm in London.
- PQE will be of approximately 5-7 years, but we may consider lower or higher for the right person (title to be commensurate with seniority and experience).
- German legal qualification is a plus.

- Just as important as legal acumen, the successful candidate must be prepared to be fully engaged in business development activities as an essential part of the position and must be self-starting in terms of pursuing business and building relationships.
- Capable of dealing with UK, US and German (and other) lawyers, with an appreciation of the different legal and cultural environments in each jurisdiction.

- Fluent in German.
- Prepared to travel, including on short notice and on short trips.
