This is an opportunity to join an innovative, high power laser company, focused on powerful pulsed lasers developed for industrial applications primarily for use in the materials processing and microelectronics markets. They are entering an exciting period of change.

To support their ambitious growth plans, they are seeking to hire ambitious, process-driven Laser Production Engineers to work at their office and manufacturing facility in Crawley, West Sussex (UK).

The main purpose of this role is to assemble electrical and opto-mechanical parts and sub-assemblies, and the alignment and test of lasers in the production of the Company’s high power laser systems.

Key areas of responsibility include:

- Performing the testing of laser gain modules, fibres, laser systems and electronic sub-components.
- Working with Production engineering to write procedures that can be followed for these test routines to be carried out by suitably trained production staff.
- Defining the test step routings on the Company’s MRP system such that labour variances to the standard time can be monitored, and investigating where these times are exceeded in order to build a culture of continuous improvement.
- Monitoring the quantitative parameters measured during the testing of parts, and as defined by the test specification, by way of SPC reporting. Producing SPC charts for these parameters and taking appropriate investigative steps when these charts are either out of control (OOC) or out of specification (OOS).
- Working with the product development team on prototype and pre-production systems to assemble electrical and mechanical systems.
- Working to defined quality systems and procedures, and supporting the improvement of these systems.
- Some mechanical build of lasers and components to a high standard when resource constraints exist.
- Assisting the service engineering team by providing telephone support to the field to fault find issues with the installed base and to ensure that the correct operating parameters are achieved during field service visits.
- Facilitating lasers for test and de-facilitating lasers for shipment.

To be considered for this role, you must have extensive experience of laser component assembly, alignment and test requirements, a thorough understanding of electrical and mechanical, equipment and drawings, and be able to understand engineering drawings and BOM structures to identify components.

You must have strong interpersonal skills, be methodical, organised and highly analytical with a logical approach to problem solving.

You must also have a right to work in the UK.
