This company is one of the world’s leading solid state laser manufacturers. Their lasers find widespread use in a multitude of scientific and industrial applications worldwide. Based in Rugby, they are a vibrant company seeking a motivated and experienced PhD Laser Physicist to join their multi-disciplinary engineering R & D team.

To be considered for the role you will have a demonstrable track record, ideally within the scientific, technical or research industry would be desirable.

This role requires a hands-on experimental Physicist and you will be expected to:

- contribute to and lead concept generation, computational modelling, evaluation, and prototyping of new designs – activities which will be instrumental to supporting Litrons growth.

- be involved in the optimisation and transfer-to-production of current generation designs, working closely with the engineering team. Your high quality experimental and analytical work will realise product and production improvements which help to secure new business.

Desirable industry based research and development experience:

A comprehensive understanding of solid state lasers is required and preferably experience in the design of Nd:YAG based lasers. It would be beneficial for applicants to have experience in mechanical design. The ability to organise and plan for oneself is essential. You may be required to travel worldwide and need to be motivated with a keen interest in the laser industry.

Qualifications:
Applicants should have a good degree in Physics and ideally a PhD in an optics related discipline.

Core technical skills:

- Strong experimental problem solving and analytical skills
- Understanding of Photonics / Lasers
- Solid understanding of physical principles and their application to practical systems
- Curiosity, imagination and creativity
- Excellent verbal communications and reporting skills

You must be able to work flexibly as part of multi-disciplinary engineering R & D team, yet demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
