Laboratory Technician

c£22K-£23K basic plus bonuses and benefits

This company is a leading supplier of speciality chemicals used in the plastics industry in the manufacture of both rigid and flexible PVC products. Part of a highly successful international business, they are looking to recruit an ambitious Laboratory Technician to join their team located in South Manchester.

You will be working with an established and dedicated team committed to delivering leading-edge products, on time and to exacting quality standards. For the right person, there will definitely be career development opportunities to progress into a more senior post.

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, your role will involve the following:

- All aspects of Quality Control, which will include testing all samples of finished product blended by our contract manufacturer and by our sister companies in Europe
- Monitoring production / customer deliveries and managing any issues such as samples failures / re-testing of product
- Associated record keeping - updating QC log book / file and issuing Certificates of Analysis / Compliance
- Producing samples for customer evaluation and trials
- Dealing with technical service requests when required
- Accelerated weathering tests and recording of results, taking measurements and calibration of equipment
- Developing a knowledge of and becoming familiar with regulatory requirements, e.g. REACH / COSHH

Applicants should ideally have the following experience / characteristics

- Approximately 2 years’ experience in a laboratory environment, probably but not essentially in a chemicals or related business
- Experience of Quality Testing / Control
- Experience of using a variety of physical testing laboratory equipment (however, this is not an analytical chemistry role)
- A knowledge of any of the following would be helpful but not essential - rheology / extrusion / mixing
- Methodical approach and good eye for detail and adhering to processes.
- Willing to get involved - they are a small team where everyone gets stuck in and helps each other!
- Quick learner with a good attitude and work ethic
