A small to medium sized plant, forms a part of a large global organization, is recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to join their Stowmarket team.

It is a truly unique opportunity for a candidate with passion and interest in chemistry.

The position calls for someone preferably with laboratory experience from a production background. However they will consider a talented graduate or a school leaver, with genuine interest in chemistry and proven records in chemistry projects.

The main purpose of the role is working on production analyses on tight deadlines to meet customer orders by assisting in performance of routine chemical and/or metallurgical analytical tasks, including sample preparation and sampling at assigned site.

The successful candidate will be required to:
- Prepare samples for analysis using appropriate techniques and performs sample preparation for quality control program
- Assist with routine chemical and/or metallurgical analysis and reporting.
- Maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment
- Ensuring that the correct sampling and testing frequency is maintained
- Working in close collaboration with all team members
- Undertaking all activities in accordance with company and location procedures in relation to health, safety and environment, setting a good personal example at all times
- Perform general laboratory duties to include keeping accurate records of work carried out
- Perform other duties that may be assigned to him or her

Essential requirements:
- General education to GCSE standard (grade A-C) with focus on science, preferably on chemistry
- Sound understanding of chemistry
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Well organized, familiar with good laboratory techniques, practices and safety requirements
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook

Preferable Requirements
- 1 year experience in a similar role
- Experience with laboratory spectrometry
- Proven experience in sampling and testing of materials

Conditions:
Work is performed mostly in an office setting. Some work will be performed in the manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk hear and see.

Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, steel-toe boots, other protective equipment as required. All protective equipment will be supplied.

Salary: competitive, depending on experience.
