They have a vacancy for a Laboratory Team Leader to work in their Chemical and Analytical Technology Department.

The main responsibilities of the role will be:

- Daily supervision of technicians and laboratory systems;
- Team performance management (appraisals, disciplinary & grievance matters);
- Managing workflow through the laboratory with emphasis on customer focus and customer awareness;
- Working with Technologists to establish deadlines and allocate testing fairly to individuals in the team;
- Occasionally carrying out some chemical testing methods to meet agreed deadlines;
- Implementation of quality system (working with Systems Co-ordinator);
- Implementation of health and safety system (working with Systems Co-ordinator and Health and Safety advisor);
- Organising and authorising the purchase of laboratory consumables;
- Working with department head to create and implement staff training plans for the testing team;
- Ensuring good housekeeping in the laboratory and store areas;
- Development of continuous improvement initiatives with both systems of work and individuals.

Candidates must have 5 GCSE qualifications (grade A-C) or equivalent in at least English, Maths and Chemistry. The successful candidate will also have A-Levels in Maths and Science at grade C or above. The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills along with effective organisational and planning skills, showing the ability to successfully work to tight deadlines. A key element of the role will be the engagement and motivation of the team members.

Flexibility, resilience and reliability are key skills required in the role, and the Team Leader must demonstrate sound communication skills, including strong listening skills; influencing and persuasion skills. Constantly seeking to improve the laboratory results, the successful candidate will show a creative ability to suggest new working practices, whilst at the same time ensuring that the team members are engaged in the changes being implemented through coaching techniques and training.

Customer focus, time management, prioritisation, and a ‘can-do attitude’ are key requisites of the role. Within the guidelines of the flexible working system, candidates should be able and willing to work their hours between the hours of 7am and 7pm if required.
