This global leader in their field is looking to recruit a Junior Design Engineer to work within the technical team as a Junior Engineer, generating solutions to product design problems from concept through to production, including CAD modelling (Autodesk Inventor), 2D drawing and analysis (e.g. FEA) skills. To carry out associated engineering and project tasks as required.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

- To design ventilation equipment i.e. fans and heat recovery products. Creation of 3D CAD models of these designs using Autodesk Inventor.
- To have experience at designing plastic injection moulded parts, some with complex curved shapes.
- Design sheet metal components using the Inventor sheet metal environment.
- Build parts into assemblies, some complex, comprising of hundreds of components and many subassemblies.
- Design of other components for the assemblies using a wide range of engineering materials, forming techniques and fastening methods, including EPS, EPP, vacuum formed plastic, insulation foam, and the design of air-tight seals.
- To model cable runs in assemblies using the Inventor cable and harness environment.
- To create 2D part and assembly drawings to BS8888 based on the 3D designs.
- To assemble physical prototypes of designs and support testing in our laboratory.
- To assess suppliers drawings and models of proposed injection mould tooling with regard to its suitability for production.
- To carry out FEA analysis and manage any sub-contracted FEA and CFD work.
- To deliver projects within time, cost and performance expectations. To plan, monitor and control workload and progress.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

- Relevant work experience in a product development role via internship/year out would be very beneficial
- 3D CAD experience with Autodesk Inventor or similar (SolidWorks)
- Experience of designing ventilation devices or fluid handling machinery.
- Experience of designing domestic or commercial appliances, including both plastic and sheet metal components.
- Some experience of FEA and CFD software would be beneficial
- Familiar with Drawing Management processes and Data Management systems.
- Good understanding of designing for large batch and flow manufacture.
- Familiar with Standards/Approvals processes at an overview level.
- Qualified to HND level or higher in a relevant discipline.
