Are you looking for a new buying challenge in a growing business? Do you want to make a meaningful impact on business performance? As well as broaden your food product knowledge, to include cookware and tableware?

This fast growing online speciality food retailer is looking for a Food Buyer with technical food expertise to manage the buying function.

You’ll develop relationships with suppliers, forecast trends, generate new product ideas and take products from concept to market. You’ll be excited by uncovering hidden gems and bringing little-known international products to a new audience, as well as creating innovative products under their own brand. You’ll work directly for the business founders and so will have an entrepreneurial mindset.

The Role

The Food Buyer drives business growth by selecting and managing the product portfolio, whilst ensuring they continue to comply with EU & UK legislation. They will also act as the main Food Technologist in the company, with support from external consultants.

Buying and Product Development

- Source new and exclusive products in ambient food, cookware and tableware, as well as developing innovative products under our own brand
- Nurture supplier relationships and work together to develop exclusive products and promotions, plan seasonal ranges, and prepare associated budgets
- Develop pricing and assortment strategies to provide the best experience for the customer, as well as driving business performance
- Assist with merchandising new products

Food Safety

- Manage the quality, safety and legality of food produced and sold, from internal processes and supplier approval through to product specifications and labelling
- Assist with investigating customer queries where appropriate

Required Competencies

- 2 years+ buying and product development experience, with track record of success
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in Food Science or Food Technology
- Interest in food and cooking, as well as food and homeware trends
- Commercial awareness and analytical mindset

They Offer

Salary £40,000 - £45,000
