This company is an award winning UK textile innovator, independently owned, specialising in the design & manufacture of contract upholstery fabrics for commercial interiors and mass passenger transport. The company is based in the UK’s West Yorkshire textile heartland, with additional manufacturing in Lithuania and Nottingham, from where it extends global reach into some 80 countries worldwide via established offices, warehousing and distribution channels in Europe, North America, China and Australia.

This company sells over 8 million metres of fabric a year for use in commercial offices, banks, government departments, universities, NHS, cinema, auditoria and transportation applications in buses, coaches, trains and underground.

Job Purpose:

To process woven fabrics through the opening out machines in the Finishing department.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:

- Overall responsibility to process fabrics in a prioritised order through the finishing equipment to satisfy customer orders and deadlines.
- Batching and sewing individual pieces of fabric together prior to processing.
- Maintain the department’s health and safety standards ensuring machinery and equipment are safe prior to operation and reporting any defects to a team leader immediately.
- Select and batch fabrics by quality type. Ensure fabrics are sewn together and ready for the next finishing process.
- Ensure fabric processed through the machine is recorded on piece tickets and the AS400 computer system, to maintain product traceability.
- Ensure fabric is assembled and cuttled onto carts ready for the next finishing process.
- Record any fabrics which have been sent for re-processing and report them to the QA department.

Knowledge and aptitudes required:

- Knowledge of flat and plush woven fabrics will be a benefit.
- Experience in woven textiles will be a benefit.
• Experience of plush fabric finishing would be an advantage although training will be given.

Personal Competencies:

- Good attention to detail.
- Mechanical skills.
- Ability to recognise and rectify mechanical and material faults.
- Excellent numeric and literacy skills.
- Must be able to differentiate between colours and shades.
- Ability to work within a team and on own initiative.
- Flexible approach, desire to learn other skills within the department.
- Positive approach to keeping to a clean and tidy work area.
