Located at their head offices in Teddington, UK, they now have a vacancy for a Financial Controller with a solid understanding of reporting and systems, to support the operations of the Research Directorate.

The Research Directorate focuses on many areas of research such as passenger shipping, land and freight transport, health sector projects and even the development of a robotic fish, including activity on EU-funded research projects. Their role in these projects is set to grow as the challenges facing companies and governments in Europe intensify. We therefore require the best people and techniques to continue the work in these exciting areas of research and to address the imminent challenges.

Working closely with the Group Financial Controller and the Research Director you will be responsible for all aspects of the financial processing and management, and monitoring of the internal financial control environment across the Research Directorate.

A significant proportion of time will be spent working directly with project partners and European Commission (EC) contacts, with a requirement to attend meetings in Brussels and other European locations on an ad-hoc basis.

Other key responsibilities include:

- Ensuring that financial statements for the EC funded projects are prepared according to EC regulations, audited and submitted on time
- Reviewing and ensuring prompt submission of all financial statements of the consortium (where the company is the coordinator) and distributing project funds received from the EC.
- Regularly communicating with project partners and providing support with the EC online portal and reporting systems
- Preparing financial statements and support audits undertaken as necessary according to current EC rules
- Ensuring timely and accurate recording of project costs
- Maintaining timesheet, sales and purchases logs and input of required data to the accounting system
- Maintaining a view of work in progress schedules
- Preparing for and assisting with all external / internal audits of the Directorate
- Preparing annual budgets for the Directorate
- Liaising with colleagues with proposals and providing support, particularly with budget preparation.
