Female Support Worker

Shoreham, West Sussex

*Female Support Workers are required to support a 23 year old young lady who currently lives in her family home in Shoreham, West Sussex. She has an acquired brain injury and presents with some mild memory difficulties as well as being physically disabled. She requires 1-to-1 support, including some personal care, at home as well as in the community.

She plans to move to her own home within the West Sussex area.

Support Worker Role overview
- Assisting this young lady in ensuring she can participate in her daily life as she chooses and needs, with the objective of continuing to pursue a fulfilling and active lifestyle.
- Supporting with events such as going to the gym, following therapeutic programmes, shopping trips, going to the cinema, a café, the pub with friends/family. It may also involve accompanying her on holidays/breaks away.
- Communicating with this young lady with respect and dignity, ensuring an enabling approach which provides optimum opportunity for her to make her own choices, and as far as possible guide her own life.
- Following instructions/programmes reliably, in accordance with her, her family and therapists wishes. Assistance and training will be given by her Case Manager and/or relevant professionals.

Support Worker Attributes:
- *Female due to personal care tasks.
- Good communication skills, initiative, tact and diplomacy are all required.
- Being able to be proactive, encouraging, creative and having a good sense of humour are all important, as is the ability to support her at arm’s length to encourage her to use her skills as much as she can rather than step in to automatically to do things for her.
- Experience of working with young people/adults with brain injury advantageous, but enthusiasm, patience and a willingness to learn is essential.
- A full driving licence (endorsements to be disclosed) and willing to drive the client in your own vehicle and/or the client’s wheelchair adapted vehicle is essential.

Hours:
Various hours are available, shifts are worked 9am till 6.30pm and 9.30pm till 9am, weekdays and weekends, please enquire for further details.

Remuneration:
£11 per hour, 5.6 weeks annual leave, free DBS check and on-going training and support.
