The Role (12-month fixed term contract):

This international membership organisation's East & West Midlands region requires an External Affairs Executive based in Birmingham with travel across both regions. The post-holder will support the Regional Director to help execute the Membership Division strategy and plan as well as regional plans, by encouraging the next generation of civil engineers, increasing their reputation and helping to execute a wide-range of high quality events.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Support the Regional Director and members to execute a wide-range of high quality regional events;
- Manage all aspects of event organising, including identifying topics, arranging speakers, arranging, drafting and editing presentations, booking venues and promoting events;
- Organise staff and volunteers’ support for events where applicable;
- Identify improvements to operational efficiency of planning and delivery of events programme;
- Contribute to the annual East & West Midlands business plan and budget;
- Work with expert members to produce reports, draft and collate responses to local and regional government consultation and draft reports and news items for their website and e-News where applicable;
- Manage, partake and minute take in the East & West Midlands expert panels, committees and networks;
- Provide written and oral policy briefs for senior staff and senior members for media opportunities;
- Help to identify, develop and maintain relationships with key influencers;
- Secure photographers, filmmakers, audio visual, staging, trophies, and certificates for major events;
- Prepare KPI reports on events to monitor department performance;

What they are looking for:

- Excellent writing, editing and proofing skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to research and create succinct briefs, reports, press releases and promotional copy.
- Strong speech writing and presentation skills
- Good working knowledge of MS programmes, in particular Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work closely with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
- Project management skills (desirable)
- Experience of using central membership databases (desirable)
- Experience of working in a small team.
- Experience of working across a number of projects simultaneously and to tight deadlines.
- Risk/crisis management (desirable)
- Self-motivated and emotionally resilient.
