This leading independent operator of double-decker buses in the West Midlands is looking for a talented Engineering Manager who will uphold their high standards of maintenance and then work to improve them yet further.
You will be a “hands-on” manager who is capable of leading a small team of staff. Although part of your role is the efficient keeping of their engineering records, this role requires leadership on the shop floor. You will have sound technical knowledge and you’ll be able to diagnose and rectify faults with their Volvo B7TL and Dennis Trident fleet. You’ll be skilled at allocating tasks efficiently to your team, and will expect them to deliver high-quality results while following company procedures. Above all, your attention to detail will ensure that the health and safety of their customers and of people in our depot is never compromised.
You will be part a friendly team which works in Birmingham. Their engineering workshop opens at 0530 and closes at 2100 on schooldays: shorter hours apply on non-schooldays. They generally work Monday-Friday, although some weekend working will be required for special events.
Key responsibilities:
- Ensuring that sufficient buses are always available for service, including spares
- Ensuring that the engineering team is fully tasked and motivated
- Ensuring that their buses and their workshop are safe and well-maintained
- Ensuring that their buses are well-presented on the road
- Communicating effectively and professionally with the operations team
- Maintaining accurate records
- Ensuring that the company’s procedures are followed throughout the workshop
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
Essential:
- Relevant engineering qualification(s) such as NVQ, HNC, BTEC
- Full UK driving licence, plus PCV licence
Desirable:
- Successful completion of a recognised apprenticeship scheme
Candidates need to possess detailed technical engineering knowledge, an understanding of engineering procedures and health & safety legislation, and the skills of problem-solving and leading a team of people. Ideally you will come from bus or coach background, but you may have military or HGV experience.
