An exciting and unusual opportunity for an ambitious engineer (with a degree in any broad Engineering discipline) with superior communications skills to join a highly regarded industry association.

An excellent opportunity to broaden your experience across a range of sectors, develop skills and raise your profile. You would report to the Association’s Chief Executive.

The client is an established industry association for owners and operators of process plants, power stations and similar facilities. Members include those involved in design, procurement, maintenance and other plant lifecycle activities. The Association helps Members identify, share and communicate good and best practices, and influences the development, interpretation and application of technical regulations and standards.

The role is responsible for co-ordinating and driving forward the technical activities of the Association, working closely with the Chief Executive and the rest of the technical team, plus other Board members and staff. It involves:

- Managing projects, such as the production of technical publications, and other products and services, through forming, participating in and leading Work Groups.
- Helping produce publications through contributing and managing technical writing, editing and proof reading.
- Co-ordinating, distilling, explaining, raising awareness of, and championing the Association’s technical agenda, including participating in industry stakeholder groups.

You will have an engineering degree in a relevant discipline (such as Electrical, Mechanical, Production, Chemical or Manufacturing Engineering) and be of, or working towards, Chartered Engineer status.
You will have a broad engineering and project management background and a high level of literacy, and skills in facilitation, project management and influencing.

The ideal candidate is likely to have a combination of many of the following:
- Achieve results through influence and teamwork, building effective relationships across a wide range of people.
- Keep projects on track, using persuasion and encouragement rather than managing direct reports.
- Knowledge and experience of producing engineering guidance, handbooks, and/or training materials, technical publication editing or more general technical writing.
- Good working knowledge of the current safety, environmental and economic issues that are challenging plant owners and operators.
- Knowledge and experience of working with regulatory agencies, governmental or other relevant bodies.
- Grasp technical issues and arguments when not an area of speciality.
- Take the initiative, be pro-active and champion a cause.
- High-level interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication and the ability to summarise key issues concisely.
- If you know a European language, in addition to English, that would be an advantage.
