This national charity creates and cares for beautiful gardens in NHS spinal injury centres. Top garden designers, who work in collaboration with all the spinal unit stakeholders, design the gardens. The charity maintains the gardens with a head gardener and a team of volunteers who work under their leadership. Music, art and garden therapy are organised by the charity’s team to offer the gentle side of rehabilitation to patients who spend so long in hospital following life changing injuries.

The charity has grown over the last few years and now has two gardens, one in Salisbury and a second in Scotland. A third garden is currently being created at Stoke Mandeville with two more in the pipeline. The Charity is now seeking to appoint a Director of Finance and Policy to join the small, friendly team in Salisbury.

The Director of Finance and Policy’s role will include a wide range of responsibilities within the charity for finance and policy. Key to this role is the development of robust financial systems and procedures and organisational policies. You will work closely with the trustee executive team and the Director of Fundraising and Communications. As the organisation grows, the role may change to meet the needs of the charity.

Finance and Policy Director’s responsibilities will be to:
- provide the Board of Trustees, co-director and relevant staff with reliable and timely financial information and analysis of the charity;
- to develop the financial systems and procedures;
- set and implement budgets and financial plans
- ensure the continuing integrity financial records and internal controls;
- to oversee the financial and regulatory aspects of capital build projects
- maintain and develop the charity’s finance and human resources systems, procedures and policies appropriate to its needs
- ensure that the charity meets all legal and statutory requirements including new GDPR laws
- to develop and ensure compliance with organisational policies;
- provide the secretariat to the Board of Trustees in their governance of the charity;
- undertake any other task commensurate with the job purpose to ensure that all functions of the charity are performed

You will have a professional accounting qualification and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial management, preferably within the charity sector. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to work calmly under pressure to deliver outputs on time and to a high quality.

This position may require occasional weekend or evening work. The role will be based at the charity’s offices in Salisbury.
