This is an opportunity for a Systems Controls Engineer with laser scanner experience to join the growing multi-disciplinary R&D team of an innovative, high power laser company, focused on powerful pulsed lasers developed for industrial applications, primarily for use in the materials processing, coating removal and microelectronics markets.

This position may be based in Crawley (UK) or Orlando (USA), depending on the location of the ideal candidate.

The Systems Controls Engineer will work with a small team of engineers, scientists and technicians in the UK and US, provide technical leadership and be responsible for the development, integration, test, product introduction and support of hand held or machine end effectors for use with high power, high energy lasers.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and integrate camera-vision systems, laser scanning controls, laser markers and other electro-optical sensor and laser control devices;
- Offer technical support and programming for specialty machine design, modifications, and equipment upgrades;
- Familiarity with Fanuc, ABB, Kuka and Motoman robots with robot programming and interface;
- Familiarity with industrial PLCs and their programming;
- Act as primary technical interface with the product's subsystem suppliers;
- Ensure final products are congruent with customer standards throughout the entirety of projects;
- Certify product designs meet applicable safety standards for worldwide distribution;
- Support and interact within the teams of Development Engineering, Applications Engineering, Business Development, Sales, Customer Service and Production as well as customers, suppliers, safety labs and other agencies.

Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering, Master’s degree or higher preferred;
- 3+ years’ experience in robotics and PLC Programming (Siemens, Kuka and Allen Bradley preferred);
- 5+ years’ experience in laser scanner (galvo & polygon) driver-interface development for laser marking;
- 5+ years’ experience in camera-vision systems for automated processing;
- Proven leadership skills;
- Ability to provide technical support to application and business development teams;
- Strong computer skills in C++, JAVA, VB and other programming languages;
- Familiar with GUI development in Windows using Visual Studio;
- Excellent communication skills with both internal and external customers and vendors;
- Project management experience;
- Ability to travel.
