Construction Material Buyer
Role Overview
This company is recruiting for a Construction Materials Buyer to join their expanding purchasing team. This role, reporting to the Senior Buyer, will assist in providing the purchasing function for materials and plant for a busy house building company with a growing portfolio of New Build Developments.
Who are they?
This company is a well-accredited building contractor responsible for award winning work across the region. They operate predominantly in the New Build Housing market and are one of the fastest growing house builders in the North of England.
This company is currently on course to build over 200 new build units in 2019, rising to 350 units in 2020 with plans for further growth into sites across the North West and Yorkshire.
Role Responsibilities
They are looking for an enthusiastic and confident individual to be involved in:
- Taking off and scheduling material requirements for all projects
- Sourcing and ordering construction materials, plant and services in a timely manner as and when requested via the site teams
- Building relationships with suppliers to encourage and sustain a quality supply service
- Dealing with site and supplier queries and issues autonomously
- Maintaining order records and price files with a high degree of accuracy and organisation
- Cost-Value Reporting
- Invoice checking and authorising/querying as and when necessary

They are looking for the following skills, qualities and qualifications in applicants for this role:

- Previous buying experience
- Excellent communication skills to deal with all parties effectively and efficiently in written and verbal scenarios
- Ability to use a computer competently and maintain accurate electronic and paper records
- Demonstrable initiative and fresh thinking attitude to find solutions and resolve queries autonomously
- Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail to gather, interpret and present information
(desirable)
- Previous construction material buying experience with a house builder
- Experience and confidence in negotiating with suppliers
What they can offer you
For the right candidate they can offer a competitive salary of up to £24,000 depending on experience.
PLEASE NOTE: The duties and responsibilities in this job description are not an exhaustive list and you will be required to meet the reasonable requests and needs of the business as appropriate. The working hours for this role are 8.00am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday (flexibility on this can be discussed) and the role will be based at their Head Office in Darwen, BB3.
