An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Careers Advisor to join an expanding company on a part-time, freelance basis. They are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic and dynamic Careers Professional to work on a self-employed basis at a school in Poole. They are a creative, media and education company whose mission is to add context to the curriculum and inspire young people about the world of work, offering reality-based insights into the local and national employer market via innovative online products and bespoke guidance services.

You will be a self-employed contractor representing the company. You would be responsible for payment of tax and national insurance contributions. The contract is to deliver careers advice work at the school for one day per week, over 39 weeks of the 2017-18 academic year.

Job Purpose

To deliver careers advice in one to one and small group settings; to offer further CEIAG interventions across the school that met Ofsted requirements for careers.

Key Accountabilities

The advisor will have the remit to widen the aspirations of all young people in the school and to engage with parents and teaching staff by delivering innovative and inspirational activities including:

- careers guidance and group information sessions focused on local and national learning opportunities
- decision-making, employability skills and help for learners to gain the resilience to overcome potential barriers to progress.

The adviser will have the initiative and confidence to draw on local expertise and enhance the CEIAG programme. This will include maintaining and nurturing links with local businesses, and education and training providers.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

- A careers advice and guidance qualification at Level 6 or higher, or NVQ 4 Advice and Guidance, or equivalent.
- Experience of providing careers advice for young people in an educational setting as well as group advice experience and presentation skills.
- Excellent communication and listening skills, empathy, and the ability to build a rapport with young people, taking a non-judgmental and ethical approach.
- The ability to motivate and inspire young people.
- The company is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all employees and contracted staff to share this commitment.
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS clearance.

Pay: Competitive day rate (FTE salary up to around £28,000)
