Buddy / Support Worker Required
Portsmouth, Hampshire

This leading Nationwide provider of case management and rehabilitation services require a Buddy/Support Worker to support their client a sociable, humorous 11 year old boy with an acquired brain injury resulting in neurological (including epilepsy) and mild physical difficulties. He is sociable and enjoys 1 to 1 attention. He is very active and enjoys being outdoors, going to the park, football training, swimming and his Xbox. Whilst ambulant he has difficulty with walking and relies on the use of walking aids and his wheelchair for longer distances.

Hours:
Approximately 10 hours per week with flexible shifts available during term time to potentially include a couple of evenings after school, from around 4pm-6pm & 4-5 hours on a Saturday. Shifts can be flexible, according to your availability with further opportunity to work full days during the school holidays.

Buddy/Support Worker Role Overview:
The buddy will provide support for our client both within the family home and in the local community to access leisure activities and increase his independence. Support will be required after school and at weekends during term time as well as during the school holidays.

Our client requires help accessing activities enabling him to play, learn and join in social activities effectively. He also requires assistance with implementation of therapeutic programmes.
To keep the client safe in the event of an epileptic seizure.

Buddy/Support Worker Attributes:

Experience of working with children/adults with special needs preferred but enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn desirable.

Confident working in a family home; sensitive to the needs & wishes of the client and his family; able to demonstrate the need for confidentiality & privacy, reliable and trustworthy.

Proactive, encouraging, creative with a good sense of humour.

Flexible - to help with the family and general running of the household.

A full driving license (endorsements to be disclosed).

Non Smoker.

Remuneration:
£9 - £11 per hour Monday – Friday and £10-12 per hour Weekends & Bank Holidays, depending on experience. Ongoing training & support provided. Free DBS check.
