This life sciences company develops natural bioactive compounds into novel antimicrobial solutions to human and animal health-related problems and takes these solutions to the market where they can be used.

The company was established in 1998. Over the last 18 years they have grown into a life sciences company that is a leader in the development of anti-infectives. Their aim is to use their culture of creativity and diversity to contribute to improving the lives, health and wellbeing of those patients and customers who have life-limiting rare diseases or for whom effective treatments for their medical conditions are not currently available.

Their people consist of highly trained individuals with backgrounds in analytical chemistry, separation science, medicinal biology, microbiology, protein chemistry, drug development, agriculture, engineering and business, who intuitively think creatively.

Responsibilities:

- Undertake and lead R&D projects in animal health - with specific focus on ruminant health & wellbeing.
- Draft trial protocols including evaluation and selection of appropriate methodologies and endpoints.
- To guide product development and generate data needed for regulator and marketing purposes.
- To guide selection of equipment (such as measuring devices, sample collection kits etc) needed for R&D projects and trials.
- To coordinate setup, calibration and maintenance of on-site measuring & monitoring devices.
- To act as a point of contact and liaise with external and internal collaborators and stakeholders.
- To produce technical reports, compile presentations and draft articles for peer review;
- Initiating and generating ideas based on reading and research.
- To liaise with universities and academic institutions both nationally and internationally
- Generate project briefs and budgets for funding applications.
- To lead the project and guide other members of the team.

Requirements:

Essential Requirements:

This role would suit a Graduate/HND in the field of veterinarian sciences, biology or similar, with knowledge and practical experience of agronomic practices, preferably with exposure to ruminant livestock management.

Beyond graduation, practical experience of >2 years research in either an industrial or academic environment in related fields is essential, >5 years is desired.

Desirable:

- Experience in leading/management in R&D projects, either academic or industrial
- Experience in developing and testing feedstuffs and or animal products
- Knowledge of rumen gut micro flora and or animal nutrition
- Understanding of animal feed regulations and registration processes
- Experience in producing high quality scientific documents as demonstrated by authorship of patents or Peer reviewed articles
- Administration and computer skills
- Be able to communicate at all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders and collaborators
- Have experience of R&D project management methods and tools.
