An ideal opportunity has arisen for an Accounts Assistant/Membership role to join their not for profit union for education, early years & childcare professionals.

They offer a competitive annual salary commencing at £14,906 per annum (review due in April 2017), with potential annual increments leading up to £19,053 per annum, based on a 35 hour week.

Do you have excellent admin and IT skills with an interest in providing accounting support and good customer service to our members within our union?

They are looking for an individual who is able to provide accounting support for our Accountant (50% of the role), whilst carrying out essential membership duties (50% of the role).

The key responsibilities are as follows –
- To process purchase invoice and expenses including the preparation of monthly BACS/cheque run. Open/close accounts, prepare invoices, receive and input payment and deposits. Maintain various ledgers and journals according to established accounts procedures. Follow up queries regarding status of accounts payments. DocuWare all accounts information.
- Responsible for travel, hospitality and stationery
- Working in a team to carry out activities within the membership department, ensuring efficient management of member information, including maintenance of up to date member records. Including entering membership data onto the database, dealing with correspondence and telephone callers to answer any queries that arise.
- Prepare regular and adhoc reports using excel.
- Operate the switchboard answering calls in a timely and professional manner, re-directing the calls or taking messages for other members of Voice staff.

You will possess –
- Previous experience of working in an accounting role
- Excellent working knowledge of IT packages (word, excel, outlook diary management and databases)
- Strong numeracy skills
- Good time management skills and ability to plan a varied workload
- Good analytical skills and attention to detail
- Able to communicate appropriately with a range of people from a variety of backgrounds
- Ability to work flexibly within a team

You will also ideally possess, but is not essential -
- Previous experience of working in a membership organisation, service or public sector environment or similar
- Working knowledge of using Excel to create and run reports.
