Recruitment agencies hoping that the Olympics will create a number of jobs will welcome news that the latest JobsOutlook report by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) shows employer confidence to be rising. With the Games only a month away, many companies are expecting positive growth as a direct result, with the majority of businesses questioned saying that they would take on staff over the coming quarter.

As results for the REC’s survey were published, it was shown that 63% of employers are expecting to make permanent job appointments over the coming three months. Meanwhile, 31% of firms will take on short-term workers, whilst 28% of businesses expect that they will continue to need temporary workers for the next three to 12 months.

Roger Tweedy, the REC’s director of research, indicated that the Olympics had led to employers growing in confidence, despite the current economic uncertainties. “Consumer confidence is rising slowly, and the impact of that should filter through to businesses in a few months. Barring any terrible shocks from the eurozone and with the potential of a boost to business from the Olympics, we could still be on track for slow improvements in job creation as time progresses,” Mr Tweedy explained.

Increased employer confidence will be great for employment, leading recruitment agencies to note an increasing number of vacancies available to place workers in. Whilst the Olympics will be finished by the end of the summer, current figures suggest that confidence will remain even after all of the athletes have returned home.
