It has been revealed in the latest data produced by Monster’s Employment Index that there is a growing demand for HR staff, with the number of new jobs continuing to increase. During May there was a 12% year-on-year rise in the number of HR staff vacancies, offering the ideal opening for recruitment agencies to take advantage of.
Overall, online jobs have increased by around 3% when compared against the figures for May 2011; however, it is the HR sector that has noticed some large and positive gains, with a significant rise in the number of employment opportunities available. Managing director of Monster UK & Ireland, Julian Acquari, said: “Despite the slowdown in the UK's economy and the problems in the eurozone, it is encouraging to see an increase in online job opportunities since this time last year. This aligns with recent ONS unemployment figures, which show a reduction in joblessness”. He added that there was a spread of growth noted across several industries, indicating that the economy was showing positive signs of recovery and stability.
Despite the rises in HR and other sectors, there was a 16% decline in the number of job openings for sports, leisure, entertainment and arts. For those working in this field opportunities may be scare in the current climate; however, with the general overview noting a rise in vacancies, there is hope that these sectors too will stabilise and grow in coming months.
