The Monster Employment Index has shown that there has been a year-on-year decline in the number of jobs to be found on the internet. For individuals looking for jobs, visiting recruitment agencies might offer a better option, enabling professional staff to help find the perfect position.
Monster compiles data from both its own board and other job websites around the world. It was found that the jobs available up to the end of July had noted a 3% fall when compared with figures 12 months earlier. The drop is the first overall fall for 30 consecutive months and comes close on the heels of a particularly stagnant June.
Delving deeper into the figures, Monster revealed that the greatest rise in job options had come from the public sector, where positions had actually increased by 23%. The only other sector that noted growth rates in the double digits was that of research and development, where a 10% rise in vacancies was seen. As a comparison, finance and insurance, marketing, PR and media, banking, and construction and extraction all saw job opportunities decline by more than 10%.
Monster UK and Ireland managing director, Julian Acquari, revealed: “Once the seasonal stagnation over the summer months subsides, we may see this start to turn.” This provides hope that positive numbers will return to the internet; however, for those wanting to find new jobs now, turning to recruitment agencies could provide the ideal solution.
