Travelodge Launches Recruitment Drive

The ubiquitous budget hotel chain Travelodge is bucking the generally cautious outlook on recruitment, by announcing the creation of 1,000 new jobs at a slew of new hotels to be built around the country.
The popular hotel franchise is to create 41 new branches at a range of locations throughout England, Wales and Scotland over the course of 2012. In doing so they are hoping to create a wide range of new jobs, ranging from housing keeping jobs, to managerial positions, to chef and bar staff positions.
The company launched a broad recruitment drive on Monday, taking advantage of online recruitment portals to seek out the best possible staff for the jobs.
Travelodge's director of human resources, Michelle Luxford, said that the company had demonstrated remarkable strength during the global economic downturn and had emerged with strong plans for the future.
"We have an aggressive growth plan in place, which includes opening 1,100 hotels by 2025," Luxford explained. "We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and committed individuals who want a long term career in hospitality."
Some 120 new recruits will be taken on as apprentices as part of Travelodge's junior management programme, which was launched to help unemployed young people get back into the world of work.
Geoff Newman, chief executive of recruitment agency RecruitmentGenius.com believes whilst the expansion may be ambitious the recruitment campaign will be easy.
"Recruiting apprentices is a hot topic at the moment, everyone is keenly aware of the benefits and the well publicised scheme will mean an abundance of high quality applications. Moreover it is great that almost one thousand extra jobs are being directly created, not to mention by third party suppliers and developers. Overall Travelodge has a strong employer brand and in the current job climate should be able to recruit their staff very easily."
