Recruiters Reveal Rising Contractor Demand In Scotland

Scotland often appears in positive reports on job opportunities, with the nation continuing to offer many employment options for people who are unemployed or want to further their career. Now, one-third of recruitment agencies have said that September billings for temporary workers rose, showing that the short-term workers market continues to gain steam in this region.

There is a very strong energy sector in Scotland, and this market has become renowned around the world for its high quality; however, it is not only this sector that is seeing notable increases in employment opportunities, with the Bank of Scotland revealing that seven employment sectors saw growing temporary worker demand in the nation. Particularly high on the list were computer and IT sectors, showing that skilled IT staff members are in strong demand.

For the third consecutive month, and having the strongest rise since April, September was a particularly good month for short-term workers in Scotland. Whilst data for the UK, in its entirety, showed positive movement for temporary staff, it was in Scotland where the largest uplifts were noted.

Chief economist for the Bank of Scotland, Donald MacRae, said: “The Scottish economy is maintaining employment in the face of the global slowdown”. He added that “a significant fall in unemployment awaits a lift in both consumer and business confidence”, helping to bolster the employment market further and offer numerous opportunities for those who are currently out of work.
