The London Olympics represent a huge opportunity for recruitment professionals to help people from all backgrounds achieve their employment ambitions, says a front-bench politician.
Tessa Jowell, Shadow Minister for the Cabinet Office and the Olympics, was addressing senior HR professionals, and in-house resourcers at the Recruitment Society’s Summer Reception, sponsored by RecruitmentGenius.com.
“The Olympics have created opportunities that I hope the recruitment industry will realise in every possible respect,” said Tessa Jowell.
She told attendees: “Thank you so much for the contribution that you make, for everything you do to help people of all ages fulfil their ambitions, and nothing could be more in tune with the Olympic spirit than that."
Tessa Jowell also praised the society’s work. "The Recruitment Society is such an important community, and supporting this event is an excellent opportunity to collaborate and socialise with many professionals in our industry," she said.
The networking event was held on board HMS Belfast in London, on Tuesday June 28. It also presented an opportunity for attendees to explore HMS Belfast, the first British ship to open fire on the D-Day landings in June 1944.
Geoff Newman, Chief Executive of RecruitmentGenius.com, was delighted to be involved with the Recruitment Society at the event. “The reception was a great success, with spectacular close-up views of Tower Bridge and the panorama of the City across the river,” he said.
“Tessa Jowell’s comments on the huge potential of the Olympics for recruitment professionals stimulated considerable interest, and she has thrown down a gauntlet that we will hopefully pick up with great enthusiasm.”
The Recruitment Society is the UK’s professional membership body that brings together people involved in resourcing.
