PepsiCo Readies Online Recruitment App

PepsiCo - the parent company of such global food and drink brands as Pepsi, Tropicana and Quaker Oats - is fully embracing the benefits of online recruitment by developing its own mobile phone careers application for iPad, iPhone and Android.

The app had a soft launch in the US market in February and, following good success, will be rolled out in the UK later this year. 

Katie McNab, from PepsiCo's talent acquisition team, told a meeting of the Forum for In-house Recruitment Managers (The FIRM) in London on Thursday that the US app had already lead to the hiring of two staff, with ten currently undergoing assessment after being alerted to jobs through it. 

The app provides video content and interactive features to give potential employees a vivid impression of what working for PepsiCo would be like. It does not yet offer candidates a facility to apply for the jobs - that still has to be done via the company's website - but McNab said that was something that was being explored. 

In the first 60 days of it being launched it had been downloaded 3,500 times and 2,100 job alerts had been posted through it. McNab admitted, "I didn't think anyone would download this, so that was a nice surprise."

She added that the British launch could be as soon as five or six weeks' time.

Geoff Newman from web recruitment agency believes there are merits associated with recruitment apps, but is cautiously optimistic.

“I’m glad that someone is downloading the app, particularly given their strong consumer brand. But what will be really interesting is seeing how many placements are made using this technology, and how it reinforces their employee branding.”
