Online Recruitment Working Perfectly For Steel Company

The recruitment drive for skilled workers to staff the reopening of the former Corus plant in Redcar has seen some 2,400 register interest in the jobs in just a couple of hours.

The plant is being brought back into use by Thai firm Sahaviriya Steel Industries (SSI) and is looking for 1,000 workers. The online recruitment portal went live at 8am on Monday morning and, by 4pm, more than 2,400 people had signed up.

The recruitment drive is taking place ahead of the announcement of when exactly the plant will begin operations again.

A spokesman for SSI-UK, John Baker, said, "We are really pleased with the response we have had today and of course it will continue for some days and weeks ahead."

The company has said that, despite the sheer volume of people trying to access the website, the online recruitment facility that they were using had worked perfectly and everyone who wanted to access it was able to. Further positions will be added to the site over the coming weeks with some applicants potentially starting work by mid-September.

Some of the jobs being recruited for include engineers, plant managers, IT professionals and office workers.
