Online Recruitment Showing Positive Year-On-Year Increase

The latest Monster Employment Index for the UK has shown that the use of online recruitment in general recruitment processes experienced year-on-year increases in all of the nine British regions in December.

The industry figures showed that the whole of the UK is embracing the benefits of logging on to track down new staff - but some regions are catching on more quickly than others. The South West saw the largest annual increase in employees placed through online portals, with a 22 per cent rise on the figures.

The average rise in online jobs demand for December reached six per cent, which was the highest figure the Index had recorded since June 2011.

Monster's UK & Ireland spokesman, Michael Gentle, said that the figures for December were typical when compared to the employment levels for the rest of the year - but hugely positive when compared to previous years.

“In light of the challenging broader economic conditions, employers unsurprisingly decided to ride out the year without having a major employment drive in December," he explained. "However, the recruitment market is still active, with the Employment Index reaching its highest level since June and many sectors, including engineering and IT, showing a more positive picture than this time last year."

Gentle added that the six per cent rise in December gave an optimistic outlook for recruitment conditions in 2012.
