Marriott Launches Online Recruitment Game

International hotel chain, Marriott, is using an innovative Facebook-hosted game to enhance its online recruitment operations.
The game, called My Marriott Hotel, requires prospective employees to set up and operate their own virtual hotels. Their results are monitored by the company's recruitment team, who then make contact with particularly well-performing players.
The game has so far proved to be an effective test of the candidates' management skills. The game is still in its early stages of development, so the only tailored environment currently available is the hotel kitchen set-up, but there are plans to develop many more. In the kitchen the players are tasked with carrying out inspections, ordering ingredients and training associates.
Marriott vice president, David Rodriguez, said, "It gives people a realistic view for the kind of decisions that have to be made and the pace of the work."
The game has been lauded by people in both the recruitment and gaming sectors, and has been hailed as a completely new way of looking at online gaming from a business perspective, moving gaming on from promotional to logistical spheres.
The game is available in several languages, including English, French, Spanish, Mandarin and Arabic. By the end of the year, the hotel operator hopes to fill 50,000 positions at hotels across the globe, with help from My Marriott Hotel.
