IT Recruitment Driving Up Salaries

Recruitment demand for experienced IT workers has seen the average salary for IT staff rise by two per cent over the last 12 months.
The average salary commanded by IT workers is now a handsome £39,753, and is being driven up by companies offering increasingly lucrative packages to harness the select but increasingly necessary skills of experienced workers.
The research was carried out by IT recruitment agency, CV Screen, whose managing director, Matthew Iveson, said that a shortage of people with experience in .NET, Java, PHP and eCommerce, for example, is driving demand.
“It is no surprise that IT Salaries continue to rise as the IT sector is one which has suffered less than other sectors in what has been a challenging jobs market,” he said. “The last 12 months has certainly seen increased demand for IT staff and we were not surprised to see that salaries had crept up.”
The number of applications per vacancy posted on online recruitment sites has increased by 20 per cent, with around 194 people applying per job, but companies are looking for very specific skill sets.
“It has been clear to see that the number of candidates applying for vacancies has increased over the last 12 months as confidence has continued to return,” Iveson added. “There is now less reluctance from IT professionals to change jobs with less fear of redundancy clouding their decision to progress their careers.”
