HR Directors Still Hesitant Over Recruiting On Social Media

While online recruitment has become a dominant means of advertising and searching for jobs, human resources (HR) directors have expressed a lingering hesitancy in using social media as a means of finding new recruits.
A survey of UK HR directors by global recruiter, Robert Half, found that 70 per cent of the professionals surveyed said that they felt social media platforms are “ineffective” as a recruitment tool or are unsure over its effectiveness.
Only 32 per cent of the 200 HR directors surveyed were using social networking sites – like Twitter or Facebook – to communicate with candidates. Some 63 per cent of the respondents said they felt it was unlikely that profiles on networking sites would replace CVs in the future.
The managing director of Robert Half UK, Phil Sheridan, said that while many employers now uses social media for marketing and branding leverage, they are not yet fully taking advantage of them for recruitment and still see online job boards as the more effective means of recruiting.
“While professional networking sites, like LinkedIn, will continue to connect business professionals, our research shows that hiring managers still prefer more traditional recruitment methods, such as using of online job boards, employee referrals and recruitment consultancies,” he explained. “It seems most employers still believe this to be the most effective approach for screening candidates and assessing competencies”
